SEQUENCES

This sequence from Episode 4 of The Old Man, Season 1 was submitted in to the 2023 American Society of Cinematographers Awards and it subsequently won for an Episode of a One Hour Commercial Television Series.

This sequence was shot on a full scale replica pirate ship against green screen on the back lot of Cape Town Film Studios. Additional footage was shot in the studio tank and on sets in the studio stage.

This sequence was shot at night on the brothel set on the back lot of Cape Town Film Studios, using rain machines and atomic strobes for lightning effects.

This sequence was shot on a full scale replica pirate ship on the back lot using dump tanks and rain machines. The sequence below decks was shot on sets on the studio sound stages.

The exterior ship was shot on a full scale replica Spanish Man O War on the back lot of Cape Town Studios against green screen. The interior sequence was shot on sets, on stages in the studios.

This sequence was shot entirely on the King Kong Stage at Stone Street Studios in Wellington.

All creatures apart from the Gingerbread Men were puppets designed by WETA Workshop.

Shot on sets and in the tank at Warner Bros Studios in Queensland, Australia.

This sequence was shot on a set built on our main location at a disused cotton plantation in Greenwood, Mississippi.

The final sequence of the film was shot over the course of a day in a disused quarry outside of Greenwood, Mississippi.

The bar and street scene were shot at real locations in Sihanoukville, Cambodia over the course of 12 hours.

Pushing the extremes of mixed colour temperatures, I supplemented the cool street fluorescents with tungsten fixtures, gelled with straw and amber.

The single two and a half minute shot following the title was shot on a 30 ft jimmy jib with a 16mm lens and required 9 takes.
